PostSubject: DSLR Camera Advice?   Mon 12 Dec - 15:44

i cant really think of anything much to ask for for xmas (apart from a dvd box set and a hoodie) so im thinking of getting a DSLR.

over the next few years, me and a few friends intend to go to a ton of races; next year we wanna go to the Silverstone 6 hour endurance race as well as some touring car races and maybe some other events. in 2013 we wanna go to Le Mans 24hr (cant go in 2012 cos of A2 exams) so can any camera people give me some advice as to which cameras are good for that kind of usage?

i dont have a clue about my budget and whilst my compact digital camera is fine for normal shots (the stuff ive posted on here), i really need a DSLR to get the shots i want.

Edit:

http://dilones.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=75&currency=GBP&language=en

this looks like a good deal; very good price and tons of good reviews on amazon even if it is old

Alright mate I have asked one of my freinds on Facebook who is verr good with camera hope this helps:

Aaron Lane:
Hey there mate,

My friend is thinking of buying a DSLR Camera for Christmas have you got any ideas or links for some good ones? He says he has no idea of the price though.

Thanks mate
Aaron

Hey, erhm well Nikon and Canon are very popular and get great pictures, Pentax, olympus use smaller sensors and although still good I prefer canon or Nikon (dads got a canon 40d), They do come at a price tho, if he can get a 550D/600D, 1100D are the basic model but spec wise are still top notch and can get them quite cheap, and canon and Nikon have tons of third party lenses available too. Sony got a new type of cameras out which I haven't actually had a chance to play with (their SLT which means no moving mirror but an electrical one :/).... All in all I'd recommend canons 550/600 or 1100 depending on budget and jessops, warehouse express and most shops do the same prices so... Sorry if this is quite long haha. Nikon 3100 isn't too bad either.

Btw forgot to add, whichever he might go for he needs to make sure he's happy with the decision and commits cos once bought unless he sells, he'll have to commit to the brand, because as the equipment grows and grows, like I'm stuck with Sony, no point gettin a diff make dslr cos my lenses etc wouldn't fit.

i think i'll go with a canon seeing as ive used sony's and cannons for a few hours, as well as nikon a little, and i prefer canon out of the lot.

that camera has some good specs and looks like its worth the extra money when i looked at comparison.

cannon or nikon and choose whichever you feel the most comfertable. Check out the second had market you may be able to pick up one up for a little cheeper and if you decide to go for a new one get it off amazon, mine was £50 cheaper than in jessops. are you watching these races? if so the focal length on the standard lens wont be long enough (18-50mm) and you will want to get a telephoto and a tripod. i juts got myself an 70-300mm lens for about £130 but that is the most basic one, an somtimes be an extra £100 for one with image stabalizer.

How much would who ever is willing to buy the camera spend on one?

I'd recommend a Canon 550D/600D/60D/7D

I only have a wee 500D myself at the mo,

heres some snaps taken with my Canon

i have the canon 450D, the one below the 500D, it is quite good, but it does not have a vidio option. however if you are not going to uses vidio then it is a gd option because they do not make that model any more and you could probably pick it up at a resonable price second hand. here are some pics i took on mine. http://www.flickr.com/photos/hmassingham/

check out this indipendent camera shop, they do second hand equipment and their new stuff is very competitively priced, cheaper than jessops. http://www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk/

Well john i think you should go for the Canon, because they make the best DSLR cameras, Im not sure about your budget, but I've just got a Canon 5D Mark 2 and he freaking amazing...I used it alot now, because got my own company and we will be making short films, music videos, promotion and alot of edits. So i recommend Canon 550D/600D/60D/7D they still have got good megapixels, I recommend you get new one, because its better to start with fresh, because you never know what happen to old ones.

J,

I have the Canon 60D and love it to pieces. I have the standard 18-55mm Kit lens, 50mm portrait lens, Canon 55-250mm, and a Sigma 70-300mm lenses. The 60D is also capable of HD movies, haven't really had time to play with this much though. This when new cost me just under £1000.

I had a 400D which cost me £400 I sold it with a 18-55mm 220 speedlight and a few filers for £350 so didn't loose tooooo much, but used the dosh to upgrade to the 60D.

I can't slag anyones elses cameras as I've only ever had a Canon, and wouldn't change for love nor money.

Hope it helps a little.
