PostSubject: Deus Ex Review   Mon 5 Sep - 14:13

Sorry for the delay lads not had too much time to play this at the mo but ive almost completed it over the weekend so i can now review it.

Firstly as the title seems a little french sounding people have been saying it wrong, its not pronounced Jew Sex so thank you to people for correcting me, its said like (Day-us-ex) apparently.

The game is the 3rd installment in a series made for pc in 2000. Althought this game has nothing to do with the original, its a modern reboot.

The game starts with Ex-SWAT Adam Jensen working security for a woman named Megan Reed, who is a scientist who had developed something extroadinary.

When preparing to leave for a conference of her findings, the Sarif Facility (place of work which specialises in replacing human limbs with mechanical ones) is attacked by augmented soldiers.

Adam Jensen is left severely battered after the attack which see's his girlfriend/woman he's hired to preotect being taken and murdered along with her team.

We skip to 6months later, Jensen has now had most of his body augmented and he sets out to find out who killed Megan and kill them.

For the most part Deus Ex is a FPS with a few little tweaks thrown in there. The game is built around this massive stealth element which claims to be uniqe but i find it to be a carbon copy of the 007 Bloodstone stealth system, where you would be in FPS, but when behind cover you go to 3rd person view to perform takedowns and flying across obstacles.

The takedowns do however make this more interesting as Jensen has retractible blades from both his hand and elbow, but once you've seen all 4 or 5 takedowns you've seen them all.

When crawling around all stealth like you have to be careful to dodge cameras, guards, turrets and robots. This can make for some pretty intense gameplay which is thoroughly enjoyable but i have to say in some chapters you just get fed up waiting around.

Your other option is to just go round shooting stuff, which will work most of the time granted you have a good strategy and gun.

As you go around each chapter you'll be required to hack into PCs & Terminals to gain access to information and security systems. I love this idea of having to gain access though hacking but it would help if the hacking system wasnt so stupidly complicated to get a hang of. I mean once you know how its a piece of piss but the 1st 10 hacks you do have you really wound up. But hacking is required for the game, which brings me to the Upgrade system.

With the upgrade system your given the chance to use a praxis kit (granted to you every 5000xp earned, found along your journey or bought in certain places). The praxis kit grants access to a new augmentations or upgrades to old ones. This would be a good system if everyother mission didn't require completely different upgrades. One mission will require a hacking level of 4 where the next will want you to be able to cloak yourself to make it possibel to get through. I find there are way too many augmentations and way too many upgrades within each Aug.

The story to this game would have been good if it wasn't as predictable as a chick flick, i won't spoil it for those who are playing or plan to play but if you guess something about the story go ahead and assume your right, i fucking was. Luckily there's some entertaining side missions that take some of your time and allow you to get away from the bore that is the story.

To be entirely honest i find this game to be a bit overrated and repetitive just like most games released these days. Its getting 10/10 and 9.5/10 all over the shop but i have only given that to a few games and this isn't one of them.

Don't get me wrong Deus Ex is enjoyable but if i wasn't such a trophy whore i would finish the story to prove myself right and take it back for trade in.

I'd save your money and wait for it to be £20, may be worth getting for that price, if you want a new game i say get Dead Island or wait for Oct with 3 massive games or Nov with 5 massive games coming out.

Graphics: 9/10

Gameplay:8/10

Story:6/10

Characters:6/10

Overall: 6.5/10
